When responding
to my peer’s paper I used Responding-Really Responding-to Other
Students’ Writing as a guide. I wasn’t use to responding to others
writing in such depth. I had comment on peer’s writings before but never in
this way. When I commented on my peer’s writings for this class I focused on
being a reader not the writer of the paper because “the reader reads and the
writer writes.” I wasn’t looking at grammatical errors just at how the writer’s
papers flowed and made a point. When there was there was an error I would ask a
question. In the beginning I misinterpreted Responding-Really Responding-to
Other Students’ Writing, I would ask a question but not tell the writer
why as a reader I had ask a question. When my misinterpretation was corrected I
learned that asking the question was good, but my explanation gave the writer a
way to address my question when correcting the error. I also learned to give
the writer suggestions on ways to improve the paper; of course this was just my
opinion the writer didn’t have to change their writing due to my suggestion.
When reviewing my comments I saw that my audience was the writer; but with me
addressing them to the writer, it made fewer errors for a future reader to
stumble upon. In my comments I mainly asked question then followed up with the
good points made in the paper. In commenting on my peer’s papers I saw that in
writing I valued how a good point was made; whether or not it was a valid
point, and how the point related to the topic or assignment. Through the
process of commenting on my peer’s paper I learned different techniques on how
to improve my own papers. Just by reading a paper aloud a lot of errors can be
found. Then by analyzing my own paper, I learned how to validate my own points.
I never knew by such a little thing as responding to peer’s writings could
improve my own writings.

Blog 9
I choose Walmart to analyze. Wal-Mart it functions as a site for online shopping. It’s arranged just as a store would be laid out. Navigating the site is easy the tabs are clear, and if the shopper can't find an item there is a search bar where it can be searched. This site is intended for shoppers. With the prices and various colors, it catches the shopper attention attracting them to various items. The home page provides endless options, basically they overload the shopper eye with price cuts to make the feel that they are catching a sale. The advertising screen that appears gives the shopper their first interesting sale. The purpose of the sidebars is to group together the common items and what goes along with the items. The topic heading at the top just give addition ways to save and spend money. Basically their main purpose is to promote money. They use values of the day to show the big sales. Pictures of how to use and of the items are also placed on the site to give the shopper a view of what they are buying. The pictures are also trying to persuade the shopper by showing how you use the items. Then they also have a brief description of the item describing its worth. The Yancy's methods were used throughout this site from the organization to group like things, to the attention grabber's, to the mapping out idea as a guide. Yancy’s ideas were interpreted into the way once you clicked on the sidebar it mapped out different things that could be find through that section. The organization of the material was clear and neat providing a guide, while the attention grabbers such as the free shipping along with various clearance items urge the shopper to continue.

Me The Blogger.....
I love blogging. I find the idea of writing about something interesting for others to read very exciting. When Mrs.Wright told the class that we would have to create a blog, I immediately loved the idea. I thought that it was a good way to get to know the people in the class better. What I didn't consider in that moment was the actually process. When the first blogging assignment was given I found it difficult, because we could write about anything. I don't remember a time when one of my teachers asked me to write about anything that interest me. I rambled through my brain trying to think of things that I found interesting. A idea would pop in my head and I would begin to write, then I read back over it and say "I don't think the class would like this they will think I'm crazy," so I would start over. As Mrs.Wright began to assign more blogs I began to find it easier to sit down and begin to write. I no longer thought about how the class felt about my blogs. I started being true to myself. In my blogs I have the liberty to say and do anything, as long as its appropriate. By appropriate I mean school appropriate. By viewing my classmate blogs I saw that they were doing the same thing. Blogging about how they felt, their life. In my blogs I have begin to work on my grammar, so I think I'm growing as a blogger and little writer.

Peer Review
Peer Review has took on a whole new different meaning to me in this past week. In high school, we did peer review, but we usually just correct the errors in our peers paper. Then we would tell them the good points made in their paper. This week I learned that peer review was just a actual peer review. It is when you review your peers paper and then responded as a reader. As it said in Responding--Really Responding--to Other Students' Writing the reader reads and the writer writes, so I didn't correct grammatical errors. I think this method best helps the writer. Especially when they are stuck, and need a little guidance. the comment feature in Word is very helpful. It allows the writer to see exactly where corrections should be made, and also where a point needs t be clarified. I know for a fact it helped me. I was definitely confused, then when my peers gave me feedback it guided me in a good direction. My peers told me how they viewed my paper, which was helpful because my teacher would also be viewing my paper. If my peers didn't understand the point that I was trying to make I knew my teacher wouldn't. I also started to read back over my paper aloud, that helped me fix a lot of errors on my own. Then by me comment on others papers it help me realize also what I needed to do in my own.

Time+Work=Success
After a month it seems like I would have fully adjusted to
the college life by now. I have not! It’s something about waking up on time,
eating breakfast, getting to class, preparing for the next class, doing homework, working out , and eating it
feels like my day just keep getting shorter and shorter. In high school it
seemed like I had the perfect schedule by waking up on time, going to school,
eating lunch, then working out after school, and then returning home to do
homework and to get ready for the next day. In high school, I even had time to
watch my favorite shows, social network, and hang out with friends. My high
school schedule just worked, because my time was on a fixed schedule. By a
fixed schedule I mean everything had a time in which it was done, it was like
that all day every day until the next semester when of course the classes
changed, but the schedule still remained the same. College is a whole new track meet, when I
thought it would just be lane 7 or 8. This month has taught me that time
management is essential to my success in college. Like Maya Angelou said “All
achievements require time.” I may have to cut out a couple of workout session,
turn off the television, stop replying to text messages, stay off of Facebook
and Twitter, and stay on campus for weekends but I am determined to succeed in
college. College may be a different track meet but I’m determined to run my
race to the end. My point being time is of the essences you can either get with
it or get lost. Choose you lane! Everyone wants to be success or win, but who
will sacrifice and work for it.
“Dictionary is the
only place that success comes before work. Hard work is the price we must pay
for success. I think you can accomplish anything if you’re willing to pay the
price. “

Chemistry.......
Chemistry. Chemistry. Chemistry. In high school, chemistry was one of those
classes that all my buddies were in, where we paid attention but didn’t pay
attention. Every day there was something to laugh at and some way to get on our
teachers nerves. Furthermore I didn’t consider that maybe I should be paying
attention because Chemistry is required in my major for college. I did pass the
class with a B, but it was one of those things where you work hard when you
felt like it and paid attention when felt like it. So certain topic I
understood then others I just didn’t care to understand. I see now that not
giving my full attention to Chemistry is hurting me now. Chemistry like any
other subject is difficult if you don’t know the basics. I would say I know a
little bit of this and that, but not enough of this and that. I feel that not
paying attention then is why I don’t have a good understanding of dimensional
analysis now. I regret not paying attention, yet you live and learn. Thankfully
there are tutors that are masters in Chemistry and are free! So surly you know
I got myself one of those tutors. Unfortunately I do have my first exam coming
up and hope that one day is enough for me to become proficient in dimensional
analysis. This weekend consists of me
studying hard for this exam, because I refuse to fail. Boy do I wish that I had
paid attention the first time though…………Well there is nothing I can do now but
stake my claim that I will pass this exam with an A. Shooting for the stars
because if I don’t make it at least I could have a B, which is acceptable.

What It Is?
It’s hard to classify my dialect. My dialect is in the
middle between the northern and southern dialect. I think that leaves it as semi-country,
yet proper. I feel my language is English. Yes, it’s English but like anything
that people inherit they add their own little touch. For example, when I’m speaking with close
friends and family I may say “Wolago I went to look for it, I ain’t see it.” I
was saying that “A while ago I went to look for it, but I didn’t see it.” I
know the proper way, but the simple way to say it would be the “Wolago.” By saying that the correct way it seems more
formal. By formal I mean educated and proper. When I’m among friends and family
I see no point, things are more relaxed because I know that they understand
what I’m saying. In some cases such as “Naw and Yea” it could be seen as
disrespectful. My elders feel that it shows lack of respect and discipline, to
them it’s as if you don’t care about who you are talking too. It is either yes
or no sometimes you couldn’t even say that, it better been a yes’mam or no’mam
or vice versa using sir. I remember a time when I got popped right in the mouth
because I said “yea” to my ma. After that, I learned to choose my words a
little bit carefully. In school yes we
were taught the proper way but most of our teachers were from the same region,
some even went to the same high school, so we all spoke the same way when
someone not from our region came along they adapted because there isn’t too
much of a difference between our dialects. The newcomer might have picked up on
our different accent but basically we were saying the same things it was just
coming in a different tone of voice. I’m proud to say my English is standard,
because of its simplicity. I think that everyone can understand it as long as
they know America’s English.

The Definition Is.......
Literacy is defined by Wikipedia as the ability to read for knowledge and write coherently and think critically about the written word. According to Merriam-Webster, literacy is the quality or state of being literate. Literate is defined by Merriam-Webster as educated, cultured, and able to read. The question was asked what is literacy. By researching I found numerous definition of literacy yet none seemed to provide a clear definition. Wikipedia's definition of literacy acts as if literacy is an extra-ordinary skill. Almost as if ordinary people can't comprehend literacy. Merriam-Webster's definition provides a little clarity yet the definition of educated still remains unclear, it could have various definitions. In class we discussed how literacy can have various definitions. Class, I agree literacy does have various definitions, but the overall definition is how you view literacy. It's a personal thing. For example, the rapper Waka Flocka Flame, many people enjoy his music yet others feel that he lacks common school knowledge. Waka Flocka displays an image that attracts many people creating money for him. Some many see him as talented, and then some may see him as ignorant. It's all about how you view the situation and feel about his explicit manners. As humans we sometimes judge a person by looks before getting to know the person. For instance Tyler Perry, he once was homeless, no one would have thought that he would be the talented man that he is today. He has made millions being an actress, director, songwriter, and an entrepreneur he has far more job titles that's just a selected few. Some many have thought that he was uneducated but look where he is today. In I Just Wanna Be Average, he describes how literacy played a different role in various people lives then he told the reader how it impacts his own life. Not all the people in his life were what some may call smart, yet all were knowledgeable in their own way. Basically, literacy has no set measure it can be interpreted in many different ways. Literacy is just how you interpret, view, and feel about it.

What People Find Amusing
My
first thought was: Aww... how cute! Your thought might have been: OMG! a
cat!!! My favorite color is orange you may like pink. I prefer cream
and sugar in my coffee, you may not. Math is my strongest subject,
history may be yours. I find this picture amusing you may not. As humans
we all differ, but the fact remains that we are all human. I would say
that everyone likes a good laugh, but some people like to be stern.
Personally, I think there is nothing wrong with a good laugh. As the
saying goes "Laughter is good for the soul." I completely agree. Watching
America's Funniest Video, can be very amusing on a boring day. Seeing
someone fall while on the dance floor getting down is very
hilarious.Especially when they feel that they are doing a little
number. The funniest by far though are the wedding falls and beat
downs.
I
prefer nice clean laughter, the dirty stuff is pretty amusing too, yet
DANGEROUS! Like I said "What People Find Amusing."I do not understand
why people must hurt themselves to get a good laugh. Personally, I think
its ridicules but some people will do anything for a buck. That's a
whole new blog:)For instance this guy that just jumps up into the ceiling. I
see no purpose but its very funny, painful to him yet amusing to me. Kevin Hart, a comedian, is another example in which his pain is amusing.
People
find different things amusing. What you find amusing others may not,
that's the differences between you and me. People do wild things but we
all fall short in some categories. The point that I'm trying to make is
that we are all different, and there is nothing we can do to change that
from what we find amusing, to our name, to the way we write indeed we
are different.
